Roadtrip 2022 Spring: Seaside - Bend - Boise - Park City - Grand Junction - Park City - Boise - Richland

Day 33 - Escalante Canyon

We opt to not even try this one - the track on the other side is rated "jeep".

The historic Walker Cabin - very cool they let folks explore the interior!

Plaster and lathe - just like our house.

The walls are all gone - but it makes for an interesting visual puzzle.

A zillion tiny rooms. Perfect.

We believe this is the spot known as the Keyhole.

Always something new in the rules 'n regs. Clearly if you set foot here - you're on your own.

The restoration efforts clearly did not include fixin' the roof. Actually kinda glad it didn't.

The Renewed Topographics: Modern American Petroglyph Panel, May 2022

Way across the canyon (and river) are these amazing Enoki Hoodoos.

Detail of the Enokis from picture above.

Ranch House Dog.

The Team on the run-in to our randomly selected objective for the day: that nameless alcove over there.

The Ancient Pinons of the Alcove.

A hanging slot canyon is the source of the water that carved out this alcove.

Circa AD 1032 (pre-Columbian times): Believed to be the first Drive-In Theatre Screen in North America, this panel was used to show black and white film noir "Westerns". It is not clear exactly what the patrons Drove In.

These young trees have sprouted from a midden containing Pop-Juniper, a favourite snack of the moviegoers.

We believe these forms to be proto enokis. Do you see the female "overwatch"?

The World-Famous Blocking Black Cows of the Gunnison block our path.

Finally - a truly angry sunset.
